San Francisco is a choice district – which means you aren’t automatically assigned to a school based on where you live. You can apply to any school, no matter where that school is located in the city.
Choosing a school is the first step to getting involved in your child's education. PPS-SF is here to help you find, learn about and apply to schools that work for your family and your child. You can also contact PPS-SF to speak with Parent Ambassadors for insights into their schools.
In 2010, SFUSD will be rolling out a new assignment system for applying to school for the 2011-2012 school year. See the Key Features of the New Student Assignment System (English, pdf). The rollout of complete maps, guidelines and deadline dates will be announced in the Fall. See the district website for the latest proposed maps and assignment processes. www.sfusd.edu/enroll
For more information about the decision-making process to develop the new system, please see our Student Assignment Redesign page.
