Parent & Family Leaders Program Launch!
We are excited to launch our Parent & Family Leaders Program! This program provides the opportunity for parents and caretakers of children in San Francisco public schools to be leaders in their community.
We are very excited to announce the launch of our new program, the Parent & Family Leaders Program.
This program uses the promotora model which invites parents and family members of children in San Francisco public schools to become leaders in their community. Leaders will be trained on several of the topics we cover at PPS-SF. Our Leaders will spread this knowledge through workshops, as well as beyond formal events. The program encourages community members, specifically in communities of color, to find and use their own agency and bring voice to their communities’ needs. Overall, we hope to create stronger school-student-parent/family relationships in support of student success across San Francisco.
Orientation and training began last week!
Our first Parent & Family Leaders are from the Latinx and Chinese communities. Next spring we will be recruiting new leaders in both communities and will launch our Parent & Family Leaders Program in the African American community.
Program goals.
We strive to make the navigation of San Francisco public schools equitable and to represent diverse, authentic voice in education policy. With the support of our Parent and Family Leaders, we will continue to make information about enrollment, family partnership, and policy in San Francisco public schools increasingly accessible. Our Parent & Family Leaders Program will help us do just that as we continue to grow the size and strength of the program for years to come!
