Action Items
Several new or updated policies will be voted on by the board
The board will vote on a resolution that would make some changes to the requirements for charter schools seeking renewal in SFUSD. One change is that after July 2019, no for-profit charter will be renewed - this is consistent with new state law which bans for-profit charters in California
Changes to a policy on Preschool/Early Childhood Education
A new policy mandating that each school develop a “comprehensive school safety plan” to be reviewed and updated by the SSC by March 1 of each year.
A new policy encouraging the use of “Student Success Teams” to support students experiencing academic, attendance or behavioral difficulties. These teams bring together families, teachers, resource personnel and students to recommend and implement supports for students on an individual basis.
An update to a policy on district and school web sites, providing that sites must be accessible to people with disabilities.
The board will appoint new members to the Career and Technical Education advisory committee.
The board will vote on a plan to spend funds SFUSD will receive through a one time “Low Performing Students” block grant. The funds - $1,918,720, with an additional $15,808 going to the County Office of Education - are proposed to be used to implement SFUSD’s PITCH program.
Informational Items
The board will hear an update from My Brothers and Sisters Keeper Collaborative.
Introduction of Proposals
Amendments will be proposed on policies relating to SFUSD Bids and Developer Fees.
A new policy will be introduced proposing the appointment of a surrogate parent for special education students in certain circumstances.
A proposal to grant or deny the renewal petition for Gateway High School will be introduced for a first reading.
Public Comment
There is always an opportunity for public comment at school board meetings.
At regular meetings, speakers may speak to any item being voted on or may give general public comment during the time reserved for "Public Comment on General Matters." Speakers must sign up in advance, either by calling the board office at (415) 241-6493 or filling out a speaker card at the meeting and handing it to Esther Casco, the executive assistant to the board, who sits next to the podium. Speaker cards must be turned in before the agenda item being spoken to is officially "called."
At committee meetings, those wishing to speak may sign up in advance or simply approach the podium when the committee chair calls for public comment.
Members of the public are typically allowed two minutes to speak, but the time given may be shorter if there are a large number of speakers.
