Pride Month - Celebrating The LGBTQ+ Community

Happy Pride Month! Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Through out history there has always been significant activism for LGBTQ+ liberation, but Stonewall was a tipping point in the United States. The last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," but the day long celebration turned into a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia, and concerts. Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world and remind people to think about a world where we all feel comfortable and welcomed to be our truest selves.

SF Pride is very excited to collaborate on two film screenings at Oracle Park in cooperation with Frameline  and the San Francisco Giants. These ticketed, socially distanced events, subject to state-mandated capacity limits, grow out of SF Pride’s longstanding relationship with the nation’s longest-running LGBTQ+ film festival.

Join for an evening (or two!) of movie premiers, popcorn and some special appearances as we celebrate San Francisco and our LGBTQ+ community. All ticket proceeds benefit San Francisco Pride. For details click here.

Visit the GLBT Historical Society Museum and Archives and see the three exhibits they currently have on display, including the Original Rainbow Flag and Queer Past Becomes Present. Learn more and find out visit information here.

Pride Month Celebrations Around the Bay Area

Rather than the usual large celebrations traditionally hosted on the last weekend of June, Bay Area event organizers are presenting their Pride events in 2021 in multiple installments. The result of this cautious approach seems to be a wide-ranging palette of opportunities to honor and support the region’s beautifully diverse and inclusive communities, which extends beyond the scope of San Francisco Pride. S.F. Pride Parade not returning in 2021, replaced by several events in June.
