Welcome to the Team: Brittany Zendejas

Q. What intrigued you about working for Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco?

A. I recently graduated from the Berkeley Journalism graduate school where I had the wonderful opportunity of developing my writing and reporting skills for two years. During that time, I realized that journalism was not about telling stories but also about making an impact. After graduation, I had the opportunity to teach for the summer and fell in love with it. I wanted a job where I could combine both my passions and that led me to PPS-SF! I loved that the entire mission was about equity and diversity for public schools.

Q. Can you share a little bit with us about your background in journalism?

A. I have worked for a couple of publications over the years that have involved some sort of service journalism or impact journalism. Recently, I worked for the Investigate Reporting Program at Berkeley which involved reporting on police misconduct in the Bay Area. Before that, I was an editor at Mixed Mag which focused on highlighting POC artists and creators. I am very mindful of my role in journalism and how I can help uplift voices in communities that are my own and outside of that.

Q. What most excites you about your role at PPS-SF?

A. I am excited to get involved in the community and really be a part of an organization that is aimed to impact and change. I cannot wait to start creating content and sharing information that is important for the entire SFUSD (San Francisco Unified School District) community.

Q. What are 3-5 words that the people who know you the best would use to describe you?

A. Passionate, determined, and creative.

Q. When you are not working, how do you like to spend your time?

A. There are a couple of ways I like to spend my time when I am not working. One is being with my family and creating new memories. Another is reading as many books as I can! Whatever it is, if it enriches my heart and soul then I know it is right for me.
