ED Monthly Message
As we know, the foundation of a successful democracy is an educated population.
Reaching the finish line of achieving equity is (has been a marathon) and it is not simply a benchmark strategy; every step forward needs to be a solution.
Hence, we recognize that within a diverse community, there are certain instances that inhibit members of our community from experiencing belonging and the celebration of cultural fibers that make us so great.
In fact, despite political agendas we have seen, none have at all globally impacted the student learning outcomes as indicated on DataQuest, California Dashboard 2022.
What is needed instead is an investment in public schools to serve as democratic and civic models, with proven promising practices that are already making an impact in the school system and which we hope that will pave the way for the future of all San Francisco children. Such as, the Achievement and Success of All African American Students Initiative, who shared with the Board of Education and Community their successful framework implemented across schools.
San Francisco is a well-resourced city that has and can continue to come together for the common good – our children.
Our children – not your children or my children.
Our children need us to model the values and behaviors we expect from them in school, sports, arts, and other areas of their lives. The time is now to put power agendas aside and let us...
Be great... Be the Solution to the relentless opportunity gaps we see across our schools.
Let’s be more dynamic and move beyond writing opinion editorials and blasting Twitter messages.
Let’s partner meaningfully, show up in communities, ask questions about needs and resources, and just get the hard work done by implementing solutions.
Let’s move away from the status quo so that all parents have the social capital, they need to navigate and trust school systems are crucial to the success of our children and schools.
I believe wholeheartedly, that when we invest in honoring the intersectionality of our communities across our public education system in diverse ways, all children benefit. I encourage you to join me in acts of celebration and honor for diversity in a manner that will bridge educational outcomes for all our children!
Thus, creating stronger community ties.
Especially over these few months in the school year, Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco is interested and will participate in conversations that focus on cultivating solutions for system coherence and school development. I invite each of you to stand with us to move forward with approaches that work for all our children.
