The Round 2 application for SFUSD schools will be available until April 21, 2023!
Parents for Public Schools of San Franciscooffers a Round 2 learning sessions where we will cover the process and how it works. We also discuss the wait pool application and process in the Round 2 learning session. Round 2 is an opportunity for you to participate in the enrollment process again if you want to try and get a school that is a better fit for your family than the school you were assigned during the Main Round.
This week has called hundreds of families and so many families are accepting their school assignments for AY 23-24! I have also supported families who may not satisfied with their Main Round assignment and wish to participate in the Round 2 enrollment process but have questions or concerns about Round 2 which may lead them to delaying participating in Round 2. The most common piece of misinformation out there is that participating in Round 2 when you have no assigned school gives you an advantage to receive an assignment. This is False.
It can be a very emotionally stressful time for parents but dispelling myths like these will help reduce the mental stress for parents. So please, make sure to order your school list on the Round 2 application in the same way you organized your schools on the main round application! (Place them in order from most to least preferred).
Back in October 2022 our ED, Vanessa Marrero co-presented a learning session at the enrollment fair.
Here are some pointers she shared in choosing schools.
1. It’s about your values.
· Your unique child interests, developmental stages, proximity, extended learning experiences, school size.
2. It’s about your goals for your child, and what works for your family.
· Use the data you have on your phone, calendar to ascertain your Family routines + schedules this will inform you on what works.
3. It’s about the facts.
· Set your list on facts; Choose as many schools as will work for your family - at least 5 schools, place then in order of your preference on your application, List your attendance area school and Balance your list.
4. Stay away from Myths.
· Reminder: Listing only one or two schools does not help your chances of being assigned There is no advantage to listing your schools in any other order.
· Not getting a school in the Main Round does not confer Round 2 advantage.
Round 2 application is like the Main Round and following these pointers can support your family’s goals for your child/children. Even if your main round school assignment is not what you wanted for your family, we are encouraging families to please accept. Declining the assignment will mean your student has no spot in SFUSD. The Main Round assignment acceptance deadline is April 7th, 2023, make sure to accept by this date!
