Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco supported three candidate forums this year. All three were well attended and informative.

September 27, 2018: Youth-Led Board of Education Candidate Forum

At this event, held at College Track, candidates rotated between three rooms and answered questions developed and posed by students. Each room hosted a different focus, including youth push-out and policing, quality education,  youth voice, and youth wellness. This forum was sponsored and organized by Coleman Advocates/Youth Making a Change and co-sponsored by Chinese Progressive Association, LYRIC, Mission Graduates, My Brother's and Sister's Keeper SF, Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco (PPS-SF), SF Youth Commission, and 100% College Prep.

October 11, 2018 - Candidate Forum - Foro de Candidatos

This forum was geared towards immigrant families and held at Everett Middle School on October 11. Candidates rotated between tables organized by language groups, Arabic, Spanish and Chinese. Parents and families had the opportunity to ask their own questions of candidates or use those developed by the organizing committee. This event was sponsored by Mission Graduates, Coleman Advocates, MEDA, Chinese for Affirmative Action, PPS-SF, Arab Resource and Organizing Center, and Dolores Street Community Services.

October 15, 2018 - Candidate Forum at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts

Moderated by SF Chronicle education reporter Jill Tucker, at this forum candidates provided responses to pre-selected scenarios and questions and raised their hands in response to a series of “yes/no” prompts. There was also ample time for candidates to answer questions posed by audience members and collected during the forum. The forum was co-hosted by PPS-SF, the Second District PTA, Support for Families of Children with Disabilities, the San Francisco Education Fund, and Ruth Asawa School of the Arts PTA.

If you missed this event never fear - audio, video, images, and voter information are available online at the following links:

We also have compiled a transcript of each candidate’s opening statement HERE and 50 word bios provided by candidates are HERE.

A big thank you to Heidi Alletzhauser for all of the photos from the October 15, 2018 Candidate Forum.
