Name & Title: Hayin Kimner, Interim Executive Director
Short bio of your background/experience: Hayin comes to PPS as an educational practitioner, researcher and evaluator, with a focus on community-based programs and partnerships that support the healthy development of youth and their communities. She has led the development of District and citywide community school partnership strategies in San Francisco Unified and Emery Unified School Districts. She received her B.A. from Amherst College, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University, Graduate School of Education. Hayin also serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for SF Peer Resources, and is a Scholar Advisory Committee member for the Jackie Robinson Foundation - Pacific Northwest.
Why she choose to do this work:
I believe that school transformation must begin with the relationships of those closest to the work—students, families, and teachers. The mechanics and logistics of schooling don't work without investing in deep, courageous, trusting relationships. This is crucial to interrupting persistent patterns of disengagement and systemic racism that largely impact communities of color.
Fun Fact:
Pandemic-me loves walking our dog on the trails of Oakland. It's a reminder that for 45 minutes, there is some peace and calm in the world.
