As 2020 Comes to a Close, Let's Shine A Light for SF Families

It is incredibly hard to believe, but the long year that is 2020, is slowly coming to a close. For so many families in San Francisco, 2020 has been a balancing act between work, distance learning, and mental health, among so many other things.

This year has brought about an overwhelming amount of uncertainty and change, but one thing that is certain is that PPS-SF will always shine a light for San Franciscan families.

“PPS-SF helps us know what is happening in the public schools, advocates for the schools and families, and helps people navigate the school system to help our children get educated and get the support they need. They are a vital line of communication and connection, especially now!” - SFUSD Parent

In March we pivoted our programming to fully online. We hosted enrollment workshops and watch parties about the new assignment policy through zoom. We organized an online series with America’s Promise Alliance, called Learning At Home, that focused on social emotional learning during on-line school. We live-tweeted at the virtual Board of Education meetings and connected with families at the SFUSD Virtual Enrollment Fair. And we launched our Parent and Family Leader Board program. Most of our programming being done trilingually in Spanish, Chinese, and English.

"非常好,很耐心。就算同一个问题被不同的家长问100次也仍然耐心解答。” (translation: “[PPS-SF is] very good and patient. Even if the same question is asked 100 times by different parents, [PPS-SF] still answers patiently." - SFUSD Parent

We say “we” because we could not do this without you all. In 2020, we’re challenging our supporters to raise $20,000 by December 31st—will you help? Your donation will directly impact public school parents and caregivers by giving families access to the workshops, referrals, consultation, and training necessary to face the challenges of the pandemic, distance learning and staying safe.

Shining a light for SF Families is what we have always done and what we will continue to do. The circumstances may change, how we shine that light might change, but our dedication will not. Thank you all for your continued support.
